The New England Patriots are inseparable from Tom Brady’s legacy. The franchise behind the dynasty

The team started as the Boston Patriots, a charter franchise of the American Football League that began play in 1960. It joined the NFL as part of the 1970 AFL–NFL merger, then took the New England Patriots name in 1971 after moving into a new stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Robert Kraft bought the franchise in 1994, and it’s been under Kraft ownership ever since — including the entire Brady era. The navy-and-red look this site borrows its palette from isn’t the franchise’s original scheme. The Patriots wore a red, white, and blue “Pat Patriot” colonial-minuteman logo from the early 1960s through 1992. In 1993, new ownership rebranded the team around the “Flying Elvis” tri-corner-hat logo and shifted the primary color from red to navy blue — the look that was already in place when Brady arrived as a rookie in 2000 and has stayed ever since.

Bill Belichick was hired as head coach in January 2000, months before the Patriots drafted Brady. The Belichick–Brady pairing is the winningest quarterback-coach combination in NFL history: six Super Bowl titles together, from Super Bowl XXXVI over the St. Louis Rams (2001 season) through Super Bowl LIII over the Los Angeles Rams (2018 season) — with wins over the Carolina Panthers (XXXVIII), Philadelphia Eagles (XXXIX), Seattle Seahawks (XLIX), and Atlanta Falcons in the historic 28-3 comeback (LI) in between.
